Mandala & Reconnections Brooch
Here is the story which inspired me to create this particular piece: I have a dear friend -- we both used to work with computer graphics and make jewelry as a hobby, years ago, but we drifted apart. When we finally
hooked up together after 4 years of being separated, she had traveled the entire world demonstrating Yoga with "Amma", the Hugging Saint, lived in India in an Ashram community and was THERE when the
tsunami hit and had to run for her life.
As for me, I was still in the same place, same street, but my life was also different: I now had a child. My friend told me about India, about mandalas and brought me papadam bread to eat -- we found we still had so
much in common, as if we had never been apart. This inspired me to make a piece about reconnections, how we could find so much in common even after being so distant. Mandala is Sanskrit for circle, polygon, community, connection.
