Tutorial 041:
Unicorn Pendant

Designed by Sandy Hendrickson
Edited & Published by Eni Oken

Level: Advanced

This magnificent unicorn pendant was designed and created by jewelry artist Sandra Hendrickson for the Fantasy, Myth & Magic competition held by the WWJ (Wire Wrapped Jewelry newsgroup) in 2006. The pendant won BEST OF SHOW in all categories: Creativity, Design and Technique.

Now you too can reproduce Sandy's gorgeous pendant: I've partnered up with Sandra to bring you this book-long lesson -- 64 pages of instructions in 177 steps. Not for the faint of heart!

Materials for pendant:

  • 13" 21 gauge square half-hard wire
  • 10 feet 24 gauge square half-hard wire
  • 30 feet 28 gauge round dead soft wire
  • 9 feet 26 gauge round dead soft wire
  • 1 thin natural quartz crystal,
    approximately 1-½" long
  • Twelve 3-4 mm freshwater pearls, peach color (make sure the hole is large enough to fit onto 24 gauge square wire)
  • Three 6mm white pearls
  • Two 2mm silver beads
  • Five clear 4mm bicone Swarovski crystals
  • One black 3-4 mm faceted or round bead for the eye
  •

Note: besides regular pliers (chain nose, round nose, flat nose), you will also need a pin vise in order to twist wire.
