YOJ 2005 Week 27
On week 3 of the Year of Jewelry, I created a double strand bangle called The Queen of the Desert. The bracelet for week 27 is a commission for a similar version, constructed using clouded aquamarines instead of chalcedony.

Paella is a Spanish dish made with a mix of various ingredients such as rice, vegetables and seafood prepared in a large, shallow pan. When I was traveling through Spain during '92 through Catalunya, seafood Paella seemed to be on the menu of every restaurant.
Although typically paella is prepared with saffron which makes it take an orangey color, this cuff has such a variety of different "ingredients" it reminded me of that flavorful dish and the wonderful time I had in Spain.

This is probably one of the most complex bracelets I have created so far. It took me twice as long as a normal bangle to make. My poor fingers need a rest after this one!
I cannot describe how soft and wonderful this cuff feels on the skin. It is made of a mix of different materials, including: seashell, soapstone, rose quartz, pearls, mother of pearl mosaic, pink opal, garnet and angel skin coral. The sterling silver beads are mostly Thai hilltribe and some Balinese -- including some whimsical "fish face" silver beads.
Froggie, oh froggie, jumping from one lilypad to another... I could not resist using these very unusual dark green carved aquamarine beads (again) with natural clouded aquamarine nuggets. The contrast of the matte carved beads with the shiny, translucent light blue color reminds me of water and leaves. Very amphibian, water and earth. However, being both aquamarines, they come from the same source. Pretty philosophical if you care to dwell into that area...

Froggie, Froggie Bangle
The theme for this week is Complementary Colors, chosen by yours truly. What was I thinking, when I picked this theme!
I decided to go with a garden theme and work with orange-red and blue-green. The result was The Garden Bangle, where you see flowers, berries, fruit and of course... little critters that live surrounding beautiful plants. A snail, a ladybug and of course... a butterfly!
