Tutorial 044:
Woven Bail for Focal Bead

Level: Intermediate

You know that special focal bead you've been stashing forever, just waiting for the right design to use it? (I know, I have several of them!).

This tutorial shows how to enhance a beautiful focal bead with a wire wrapped bail that is more than just a wrapped loop. Try this very pretty woven bail, which uses the popular ladder stitch.

Materials for pendant:

  • 20-gauge round soft wire, measuring 15 inches long
  • One focal bead with wide hole, measuring 1 to 1.5 inches high
  • 3.5 feet 28ga soft round wire
  • 6 2mm or 3mm silver beads
  •

    Price: US$ 5.00

Tip: Using the Woven Bail with front drilled stones

    lorvin03

Lorvin Rinaldi approached me with the following question:

"I recently purchased a large amount of turquoise with front drilled holes . I was wondering if you could suggest a way to either frame the stone with a bail or incorporate a particular wrap to I guess in simple terms make it look good. "

I suggested using the Woven Bail tutorial, but instead of slipping the three wires through the vertical hole (because there is none), slip the wires through the frontal hole, bind them together with the thin wire to form a loop and just spiral the ends of the thick wire to cover the hole and loop.
